Welcome to the 5th and final week of the Fall Balance Series, designed to bring you more work-life balance in 30-60 days.
Last week we learned the phrase "I don't have time" is BS!
Wow! That's a very different challenge, a much higher quality problem, than "I don't have time." You're in a much better spot already. Congratulations.
We've talked about what a "10" looks like, a weekly planning process, and how to fit all this stuff in. We've covered a lot in this series!
Now you know what you want, you've started chunking it down, you're planning it out, scheduling your success, and deliberately spending your time on your highest priorities. But you're not seeing the progress you want as QUICKLY as you want it.
Stop and think about "extras" for just a moment.
By "extras" I mean what Stephen Covey would have called Quadrant 2 activities - things that are important but not urgent. (Most people would call these extras...but not you! You're an achiever. You know what a "10" looks like.)
It's not life threatening if you don't work on that project at work, or if you don't work on the book you've been wanting to write. Those are "extras." Our day-to-day life does not demand those things of us. But they are the things YOU require to make that area of your life a "10."
And what you're saying is "I'm not making progress fast enough." This is a simple matter of focus.
If, when we started this process, you rated yourself at a level 2 in an area and now you're at a level 5 and your thought is "But I'm not getting to "10" as fast as I want to, I'm just a 5"...I'm going to say HOLD YOUR HORSES! You just moved 3 steps in this category! You just moved ahead 30%! It's just been a few short weeks. Holy cow! That is amazing! YOU are amazing!
Stop and celebrate the fact that you just gained 3 out of 10 points!
Focus on the progress you ARE making.
That's what makes us happy. It makes us happy when we see we're moving forward, we're getting closer to that "10," that we're no longer the 2. You're making progress toward your "10."
Today's message is simple. Focus on what you do have, what has gone right. Appreciate where you are now and the journey.
That IS Balance.
Balance is knowing what is important to you, know what a "10" looks like in that area of your life, chunk it down, plan and prepare for it regularly, deliberately spend your time on the things that are of the highest priority, say no to things that don't fit, and appreciate where you are on the journey.
That's a wrap for our Fall Balance Series. I hope you've enjoyed it. It was a blast putting it together for you. Have a wonderful rest of the year!
